HARRY

~~~~~~~~~~
Harry was the fourth child born to Isaac and Elizabeth in Washington Parish, Louisiana. He worked on the family farm until he married Retta Burkhalter in Tangipahoa Parish on January 8, 1898. They had two children together. Both, Harry and Retta, were residents of Washington Parish. Harry later married Dilsy Burkhalter.
Harry Dyson was a farmer who raised cotton, corn, sugarcane for syrup, peas, butter beans and many other vegetables to provide for his family. He attended Crystal Springs A. M. E. Church. He was laid to rest in the Vernon Community. This was told by Cousin Norman Blackburn who died in 2015 at 96 years old. Harry was his uncle. Submitted by A. A. Vernon.
Harry and Retta were blessed with 2 children, 17 grandchildren… He and his family were listed in the 1900, 1910, 1920 and 1930 Censuses.
On April 5, 1932, at about the age of 75, Harry died from appoplexsey [sic], aka stroke, in Ward 9 of Washington Parish. He had been under the doctor’s care since January 1931. Claude Magee, the informant, stated that Harry was a native of Washington Parish, a farmer, and was married to Dilsy Dyson. His parents were listed as Harry and Betty Dyson. Harry was buried at Crystal Springs AME Church Cemetery in Mt. Hermon on April 5th by undertaker, F. M. Brown? (hard to read).
Harry’s descendants are listed along with photos.
